1Mission, Pantano’s partner in Mexico, is doing much more than just helping PCC build homes in Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point). Together with 1Mission we are working to help change the culture in Rocky Point from one of dependence on the outside (handouts) to one of empowerment where communities take true ownership for their own development.
1MISSION was founded in 2008 with a vision for more indigenous empowerment and helping people see themselves as active participants instead of passive recipients of change.
1Mission has established a reciprocal-exchange process of working with the poor, to uphold their dignity & responsibility. Their process cultivates true partnership rather than relationships built on unequal power.
While Pantano’s partnership with 1Mission has primarily focused on the people and families of Puerto Peñasco, Mexico, 1Mission has recently extended their program to include the countries of El Salvador and Nicaragua.
Prayer Requests and Praises:
- the CHE (Community Health Evangelism) training team in Puerto Peñasco for guidance in training the local committees
- for faithful people to be trained as committee members and CHEs
- for unity among all believers, churches, and ministries in Rocky Point
- Praise for the cooperative relationship that has developed between the CHE committee and the State of Sonora Public Health Department.
What you can expect on this short-term mission:
Pantano organizes a short-term mission every year in October, but you can go at anytime of the year if you have a group of 20 or more participants. This is a great mission opportunity for life groups!
We work alongside families in the barrios building solid foundation, frame stucco houses. The work is completed in two and a half days using no power tools of any kind. Although this is a house-building project, the focus of the project is building relationships. We are blessed just as much as the families receiving the homes!
- Los Niños
This is a mini vacation Bible school in the barrios which includes games, crafts, songs, and a puppet show in Spanish that teaches Bible verses. Activities will be planned to minister to the mothers who accompany the children as well. If you have a heart for children and moms, this is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the love of Christ in the barrios!
