Heartbeat for Africa
Heartbeat for Africa (HBA) is a faith-based, nonprofit foundation that exists to honor and join God in being a blessing to the people of rural Africa through community transformation with the goal of breaking the cycle of poverty, disease, unemployment and hopelessness. HBA partners with Christian-based, African non-profits that are involved in ministering to children that have been orphaned or rescued from human trafficking; agencies employing the Community Health Evangelism (CHE) strategy to promote development within rural African communities using local talent and resources; and agencies providing medical services/clinics in rural communities.
HBA was founded by Ed Harrow and is guided by a number of PCC members including Dr. Troy Tompkins, June Crawford, Mark Ragel, Greg Lynch and Jeff Wesley. HBA is currently partnering with Dayo Obaweya, a PCC partner, who represents Medical Ambassadors International and is launching the Africa Internship Training Center (AITC) in Ghana to equip men and women to teach CHE throughout West Africa. HBA’s other primary partner is the City of Refuge Ministries who ministers to children rescued from slavery on fishing boats in Lake Volta.
- For God’s leading as they support the Africa Internship Training Center (AITC) and it’s dual mission of teaching CHE and ministering to orphans through providing job skills and CHE education
- For our short-term mission trips to teach Micro-Enterprise Development, Women’s Cycle of Life, Christian World View under the CHE umbrella; conduct medical clinics and health screenings, and assist in the construction of CORM and AITC facilities
- For God’s direction as they contemplate a new partnership with an African organization ministering to young girls rescued from slavery in fetish or animistic temples
What you can expect on this short-term mission:
Destinations for short-term missions with HBA include Ghana, Liberia, Guinea Bissau, and several other west African nations. You could be part of a medical team doing clinics, teach Community Health Evangelism (CHE) lessons or clean water alternatives in rural villages, or visit with children at one of HBA partners like the City of Refuge Ministries in Ghana. All team members are trained in CHE concepts and lesson plans, cross-cultural interaction and clean water initiatives prior to departing the United States.
