COVID-19, or the Coronavirus, has been labeled a pandemic and now declared as a National Emergency. Universities all over the US are canceling classes. Almost all major sports have canceled games. Schools are closing all over the country. The Tucson Festival of Books, the Folk Festival and other events in Tucson have been canceled. Cancellations are becoming the norm. Many employers, including the University of Arizona, are moving to remote offices. The city is not issuing permits to groups over 10 people.
The uncertainty of this outbreak is creating anxiety in our culture. Yet, we remain certain of God’s steadfast presence and careful attention to all that is happening. Please join us in praying for those who are affected by this illness, as well as their caregivers and those who are working around the clock to minimize the impact of this virus. In Psalm 46, we are reminded that it is God who is our refuge and strength, and our ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, let us be wise, but not fear, while we continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus to our city and world.
All our campuses are being directed to “attend” Sunday services online. Service times are 9AM, 11AM and 1PM. Plan in advance to have bread and juice to partake communion at home. We are providing online options for students and children also – go to our online campus page to access those.
Online only will continue through and include Easter Sunday (April 12 – 9AM, 11AM and 1PM). We’ll be assessing the situation of when to resume physical services after Easter as we get closer to that time. We’re deeply heartbroken not to be able to do baptisms on Easter (we’ve averaged 90 baptisms the last two years). However, we’ll plan a big celebration when we can resume physical services and hopefully can celebrate baptism then or soon after.
Our hope is to be able to gather together on our East and Southeast campuses as soon as possible, but in the meantime, we believe we can continue to learn and grow together as a church by worshipping in our homes with friends and family.
If you have a need, call the church office at (520) 298-5395. Even if a pastor is not on our physical campus, the receptionist will get you in contact with someone you can talk with, pray with, or who can give you counsel. Our office is currently closed so if you need anything please call. If you call after hours, we have an automated system that will inform a staff person on duty who will follow up. You can also submit your prayer requests to https://pantano.church/prayer/.
While we can’t meet physically as a church for a while either in services or in classes or groups, it is important more than ever that we stay connected our pastors are communicating daily (Monday – Saturday) through a short video on our Pantano Facebook or Instagram pages.
Please text “Pantano” to 31996 to receive notifications of major changes in the upcoming weeks.
