August 26 - October 7

1 Peter is a letter written by the Apostle Peter to those who are following Jesus and facing severe persecution. He encourages them to embrace hope in their suffering. He reminded them, and us that we are different and that is part of the reason why we are persecuted, mocked and misunderstood. We are like foreigners in a foreign land. We are transients that live in this world, but who are not entirely a part of this world. We are to live our lives in contrast to those who live their lives primarily apart from God. Foreigners or aliens see things differently, their values are different, and their purpose is different. We are called to be a contrast to this world and thus influence this world for good.
